1. What factors led to the genocide in Rwanda in 1994?
A. The genocide was sparked by the death of by the Rwandan president Juneval Habyarimana. His plane was shot down over the Kigali airport. This event took place on April 6,1994. The death of the beloved pesident wasn't the only thing that sparked the Rwanda genocide. There was more to this horrifying story.
2. What was the time frame of the 1994 genocide and how many people died?
B. The time frame of the 1994 genocide was from April of 1994 to June of 1994. It was said that an estimated 800,000 people were killed in a matter of 100 days. In total there were probably about 5 million deaths from this massacre. Some of the Tutsi were able to flee to Zaire which is now called the Democratic Republic of Congo
3. What were some of the after effects of the genocide?
C. In July the RPF captured Kigali and the government collasped and the RPF declared a ceasefire. Even though the killing was over many conflicts have been started in the DR Congo. Most of the peace- keeping force were unable to stop the fighting. I learned so much from this heart breaking experience. I truly feel bad for those who lost their lives
